Proof copy in hand. This is not a drill, I repeat, this is not a drill!
I received my proof copy yesterday, but things around here were a bit chaotic so I didn’t get to share it with you guys. Instead, I did some freelance writing and took part in a Hocus Pocus 2 watch party! I highly recommend the movie. Though not as great as the first, it was still an amazing movie that will enter our holiday rotations for years to come.
Alright. Down to business.
When I opened the book, I was elated. It’s perfect and exactly as I imagined it would be. Then, I took it into the living room to work on while hanging out with Katarinah, and she screamed at me.
“Your face is on that book!!!” She had to come over and touch the book to see that it was, in fact, my picture. I was so proud that she recognized it without any prompting. Then she said, “You’re a library now!” And of course, that doesn’t make sense, but she’s just about 3 and a little delayed, so I understood what she meant.
Yes, sometime in the near future, my book could be coming to a library near you. I just hope it’s worth taking the time to read. While I enjoyed writing it, I’m about sick of reading it. I’ve read the story through about a hundred times, though, so it’s to be expected that I’d be sick of it.
Time for one more read-through to make sure everything is printed as it was supposed to and then I can put it on my shelf (or in a box since I will be moving soon) and never read it again. Just kidding. I’m a glutton for punishment, so I will probably reread it often just to geek out over the fact that it’s mine.
A friend asked me a few days ago if another book is in the works. I said yes without thinking, because of course there is. But every time I sit down to try to write, nothing comes out. Could it be that I’ve fulfilled my dream of seeing my name on the cover of a book so the inspiration is gone? Or perhaps it’s the things in my life that are changing that are preventing me from connecting with my stories.
Only time will tell.
